The Dr. Vanisa Turney Scholarship Fund
High School Applicant Eligibility Criteria
Identify as a Black female.
Reside in Dayton or Trotwood, Ohio.
Plan to major in Education (preference for mathematics focus).
Accepted to a four-year college or university in Ohio.
Maintain a minimum GPA of 3.0.
Demonstrate leadership, collaboration, and community impact through school, community, or volunteer activities.

Write an Essay:
High School Students:
Share your career goals, leadership experiences, and how you plan to make an impact in education in 500-600 words.
Current College Students:
Share your career goals, leadership experiences, and how you plan to make an impact in your field in 500-600 words.
Provide a Recommendation: Include a letter of recommendation from a teacher or mentor.
Submit Your Transcript:
High School Students: Provide a copy of your high school transcript.
Current College Students: Provide a copy of your college transcript.
Deadline: Applications close March 15th. Awardees will be announced in May.
High School Award Details
$500-$1,000 scholarships awarded to two recipients.
Funds can be used for tuition, books, and required fees.






About the Scholarship
This scholarship honors the legacy of Dr. Vanisa Turney, an accomplished educator and visionary leader in the Dayton area. It supports and celebrates Black female high school seniors from the Dayton or Trotwood area who aspire to become educators, as well as Black female college students that currently attend a college/university in Ohio. By fostering diversity and inclusion in education, the scholarship aims to empower the next generation of transformative educators and/or professionals.
